Front cover photographs

These two photographs are the two i had considered for my front cover. Firstly I like the clothing that she is wearing some purple in her clothing and this shows my colour scheme in her clothing linking my front cover photographs of the artist automatically to my magazine. Both of the photographs show two different sides to the artist and to very different sides of the music. At first I decided to go with the first image as I thought it would be creative and lively just what I wanted also promoting a good image about the music genre and making the magazine very approachable for the audience. However i had advice from my teacher,advice from other pupils and more importantly my target audience, and the second image was the one chosen to use for my front cover instead and i have to agree the image is the better one for my front cover as its mysterious and quite thoughtful image to get the audience interested in the magazine as it is the front cover that grabs the readers attention, so this is why I picked this photograph and why I changed it as it was chosen by my target audience and its important for me to listen to my target audience and they are the people who are going to buy this magazine.
The final photograph I took out the background of the second image to blend in with my magazine and also the black background makes the photograph stand out too. It would also fit in better with my music magazine genre.

Photographs I took

These are photographs I had taken.For my magazine and I took a different variety of them to give me different ideas for my magazine cover,contents and double page spread.

As you can see i tired different locations to gain different effects and make sure the photographs link well with the music genre also used props such as the guitar to show that the magazine is all about bands, artist etc but also their music i also tried to show the other sides of the music as well such as the moody side of it but also the fun and lively side to it as well and this can also link with the type of music. From the variety i have taken i have to chose different photographs to show the different sides if the music but to also keep my magazine linked throughout.

The chosen ones

This is my front cover I have chosen as its links well with my music genre as the picture I really like better than my first idea because it fits in better with the whole concept of indie music as she is in a thinking pose and makes the audience want to know what she is thinking and they become instantly curious about the artist and what is inside the magazine. Also i like that she is wearing a purple top as it relates to my colour scheme for my magazine but i also like the chosen font for my masthead it fits in well with genre of music but also this links my pages together as its used for the article title and the 'contents'. Also the paint splatter shows the pages again are linked together but the splatter relates to the name rebellion as spray paints links with teenager so its connecting with the audience it relates to them but also spray painting is antisocial behaviour and people who do are rebellious so it links with the stage name of the artist. I also like the quote at the bottom of the stage name is good as it promotes the artist but also shows the magazine is about them and wanting them to read more but also to find out the information and news related to the artist. Also it alternates between the colours in my colour scheme and it looks really well links withe clothing but also though out my magazine is the use of the same colours.


This is my chosen contents page, as i like the photographs on it as again is a picture is the same artist on my front cover to show that's she is the main article as she is used on my double page spread as well so the all of the pages are linked together. Again the colour scheme is running through my pages to link them further together which is what i was aiming for. I had chosen the distorted rectangle shape as it links with the unique side of the music genre but also they aren't rounded edges to show the rock side to the music and to relate it back to my genre of music but the alternating colours makes the magazine approachable for readers but also grab there attention as the colours stand out from one another. I used the numbers on the photographs as i have seen it on previous magazines before I have read or seen and those magazine are top selling and its a good idea so it gives a sneak peek at articles as the pictures represent what is on that page and makes them very curious which makes the audience read on. The paint splatters on the contents page link my other pages together but also it makes the photographs stand out from the black background like the other colours on the contents page it really is eye catching and would stand out from other magazines on the shelf.


This is my chosen double page spread, I picked this one because i really like the photograph and effects used on it and how the effects on the page link the background with text and the photograph. The main the photograph i am very pleased with as it again a curious shot of the artist just like the front cover makes the audience interested also the photograph fits in very well with the indie music genre. I also like the use of the the other photograph as it shows a different to side to the artist and also makes the double page look like a fact file on the artist which is what i was going for as the whole article is all about her and a fact file about her career and stardom. The paint splatter in the background is a great effect as it really stands put from the black ground and really adds something to the double page spread it makes it look busy and lively like the indie music and the effect i think really related back to the music. The snapshot i like because it shows two sides to the artist a serious side but also a happy side to show the music can be happy but sometimes deep and thoughtful. The title its the chosen masthead font to link all three pages together again to show they are all together

Overall I think all my pages link well together and its easy to tell what genre of music its promoting in the magazine.

Double page spread

These are a few mocks up with my photographs I took for my music magazine. I deiceded to go with this photograph as it links with my front cover as she is a very thoughful postion and again it makes the audience want to know her thoughts and ideas just like my front cover photogragh but also creates a moody atmosphere which again connects with music genre aswell as the rest of my pages.

My first idea I didn't do anything I was just deciding the page break as I didn't want to get anything cut off in my page break also i was also get my title positioned right at the top of the page. But also to get the blank page half of my double page spread and also get my photograph half correct. The next idea of mine I got ideas from other magazines with the idea of text on a reactangle just below the title I thought it would be a good idea it is but I think its just too much for my double page spread which I don't want but the double page spread is linked together at the page break by the title but I don't think i will be going with this idea for my double spread. My next double page spread i used a grunge/ indie effect behind my text to link my double page spread to the music genre but I don't think it goes well with my music magazine its also i lighter pink which isn't part of my colour scheme but i think the double page spread looks boring and something missing from the design. The next idea is similar to my first where i was just planning the basics and i also added an effect of another photograph as i have seen it in other designs and i really like this photograph snap shoot effect as you get to see another side to artist a posed but a happy side to the artist so it makes it more approachable for the audience to see a happy side to her. The next idea i really like as it links together the front cover and contents with my double page spread but also the paint splatter makes the double page standout as it standouts from the black background but also the white text stands outs from the black background but also from the purple paint splatter, also i put some paint splatter on the photograph to keep the pages linked together and the photo snap shot also keep the double page linked together as some of it on the photograph to keep them linked together so they don't look out of place. My final idea I had seems very dark concept as it seems very dark which I don't think links well with the indie genre as its light and lively as well not just all dark, the moon effect would look better on a rocker magazine i just wanted to see how it looked and if i can still see the effect over the text. Out of my idea for the double page spread i am going to go with with paint splatter effect for my double page spread as it links well the contents and front cover but also link very well with indie genre and my magazine is all about the music.

Contents Page

These are my mocks up of my front cover i used my orinigal mock up and placed my one photograghs and both artist look moody which links with my music genre also both of them are waerin purple linking my magzine colour scheme also with the grunge/splatter effects again links my front cover , contents and double page spread together. The first few are just are just really deciding on which my picture I would but also where I would place them on my contents. I like my photographs used as I like the long shoot of the main atrist as she is posing but looking away which shows her stage name rebellion, also the other artist is a an action showing instruments to show my magazine is natual and unposed and shows the music genre true side which is all about music. I like the use of both colour splatters the white and purple as it fills the page more and shows my colour scheme a lot more but it maybe to busy with all my effects on there and my look better with just the white splatter and makes it look more natural. I also used a butterfly effect on the contents page as I thought it would look unqiue but I think when i did it looked to femine for my magazine and I am trying to grab the attraction and liking from both sexes. The grunge white effects also make the photographs standout aswell which is very eye catching on the contents. I have chosen these photograghs for my contents as one is of the main artist which links the pages together as she is the main article and is always on my pages to show she is the main article. The picture of the main artist on my contents i havent taken away the background as i felt the background suited the indie genre but also her pose she is moody but wearing bright clothing to show the lively side of the music aswell and fits in well my with my contents page. The other picture is much more moody but also has a guitar promoting the music and to show its all about the music.

Front cover

My basic idea of layout and which picture and where I would place everything else on the front cover of my music magazine.

These are many mocks up of my front cover with different effects or taking things away from the image or adding some brush effects to fit in with my music genre. I have used this photograph because it my model looks happy and having fun and its what i am trying to show someone having fun and to make the magazine very approachable but also adding effects to add the uniqueness of music genre. My music magazine front cover started off very basic like my others with the other mocks up just a layout of my text around her and to make sure her head isn't cut off so the face is still visible as she is my main article also the name rebellion I think is a good name as it fits in very well with my music genre and again I think it will stick inside the audiences mind. The use of the butterfly splatter was just to add something extra and make the front cover more filled. After this idea i was inspired to add something extra to the picture and mess around with the effects and made a purple shadow to link with my colour scheme as all my mock ups follow the chosen colour scheme but it was more of idea to see how the shadow would I do like it but i think it makes the front cover look to full and I don't think it fits in with my music genre its more of a effect used in pop magazines but i thought I would see how it would look it does however, it makes the front cover stand out but i don't think it looks correct and doesn't fit in well with my genre. I decided again to make some changes and I got rid of the shadow effect but i added a swirl effect around her around one of her hands to show she is the main article and to show in control but also to link with her stage name but also the genre again and really shows of the creative side to music but also artistic which could portray how she performs on stage and in her music and there is really something about the artist. I really like this idea as I think the paint goes around her arm and hand really well as it shows a sort of magic thing around her to show her own emotions through the effects. Then I decided to use an effect that I used on my other mock up of the front cover a paint splatter in the corner which looks very effective and fits in well with music genre but also would link my contents and double page spread together but i also think it makes the front cover different from others as its creative yet moody. My next front cover I spray paint effect i used behind again to see what it would look like but again the paint effects link all of my pages together also using my colour scheme but i think i should use to much white on the front cover as it is becoming over run with white text and white effects so, it may have looked better in purple instead of white. I really do like the effect i have chosen but also where it is positioned it as the lightning effect goes on the name and it looks like its striking down on the stage name, so it shows something special about the music and to so the artist is new and steaming up the music charts but i think it leaves to much space on the left hand side and doesn't look very full which isn't what I want, I want the front cover to looked full and busy but not to much just a nice amount so this maybe not the best idea for my front cover. I like the use of the paint splatter as it fills the page but not enough for my magazine but links all my pages together but i think it too pink instead of purple which isn't part of my magazine colour theme so I don't think this idea would best for my front cover. I like the use of the writing effect behind the artist this time it remind me of music album covers and I thought it would be best as its very different but i don't think its bright enough for my front cover so it looks plain as its not a bright enough effect so it wouldn't attract the audience to my magazine. I really like the next ideas i had on my front cover as I used paint splatter effects and in purple this time but they also make my front cover stand out, but also make it link really well with the rest of my pages and the genre of music but also make the page look full, busy and creative linking very well with indie music genre.

New and improved front cover I decided to use a different photograpgh as i had advice from other students and teachers as it was a mutal feeling, they all felt there was somthing missing from the magazine so I went through my other photographs i found this one and edited it to get rid of the background. The other students,myself and the teachers thought this one looked a lot better andd fitted in better with my genre of music. So I have deicded to go along with the my target audiences opinions which who opinions matter more as it is them i am aiming my magazine at.

I really like this photogragh and fits well on my front cover and the photograph is very unquie as it shows the artist is thinking and looking very mysetrious which fits in well with indie genre but also makes the audience want to know more about her and make the target audience buy this magazine. The picture as it covers the whole front cover and is big but also bold makes it obvious she is the main article in the magazine. Also she is wearin purple on her shirt to also link the pages togther as its part of my colour scheme for this music magazine which again links with indie genre of music.

this idea is my first one with new photograph i decided to again use a spraypaint/paint splatter to link my contents and double page spread together to show they are all part of the same magazine and i also added a quote from a reviewer on the artist to make it standout and make the article and artist standout to make them buy my magazine but her expression and clothing links in really well with genre of music she is promoting. Also links in the her stage name rebellion as it shows her rebelious side to the artist linking with the spray paint which links with rebellion teenagers which creates a connection with target audience.

On these new improved front cover Iused again different effects on the front cover and I really like the ones with the spray paint effects or the paint splatter ones as the splatters link all the pagwes togther and link in very well with my genre of music. Overall my front cover looks a lot better and more related to the indie theme.

Brush effects

This is just a mood board of different effects I could use on my magazine either front cover,contents page and my double page spread and its to give me ideas of what type of brush would best suit my magazine and I am going to go with a paint splatter brushes as they seem to look great but also fit in will with the magazine and the genre of music i am trying to promote and portray in the magazine i used a dark black background has its the one i am using in my real project and the purple, white colours to show how they would look in the different splatters as these are my chosen colours in the project. Also some of the brushes are quiet unquie so i was experementing with them to see which colour would best suit them and also if they fit in with my music magazine.

Double page spreads

This is my starting point and I have developed from this one

These are few ideas and thoughts for my double page spread included an article I have written on the page, with effects on the black background but also the image I have used to keep the pages linked together and made sure the page break wouldn't cut any ones head off or anything. The first idea is just a really simple and standard looking double page spread apart from the paint the splatter in the background which really stands out from the dark background and the splatter also makes the white text stand out as well making the whole double page really eye catching to read and interest the audience and a basic layout of three columns, the splatter in the background really stands out but also links with the music genre indie as its quiet unusual but very modern. The next idea I have moved around with some words to fit in the quote from the band which I found in other music magazines and also previous projects and decided to go with a white rectangle but also tilt it to keep in with creative genre of music and i thought the white background with the purple writing is good as the white makes a change from all the purple and quickly draws the attention of the reader and it immediately stands out to the audience. Then i had an idea of having a little snapshot of the the band live to add something extra to look like a profile but it also professional and i had this idea from other magazines as it gives somthing extra to the spread and the white snapshot again stands out and draws attention of the reader it also makes it look interesting. The next idea after this one, is very similar to that idea but have added a white rectangle behind the letter 'T' thats in purple to firstly see what it looks like but also to make it standout again all in the aim to attract attention of the target audience, the last idea was more of an experiment with rectangles and seeing how it would look with again some more text on the double page spread and this idea came from other magazines I have seen our brought and seeing if it suits my magazine.

articles reasearch

There are many different articles in a magazine such as reviews or news bands talking about themseleves also a interview with famous bands. These are many different articles I should consider for my main article as many articles can interest many different groups in the genre as an interview with a famous band as it can attract certain people depending on the band, also it can depend on stories such as a rags to riches story seems to inspire the audience and make them feel good but also the music behind the article is the main attraction as the magazine is all about the music and what the music fans like. I think my article should have a story like a rags to riches story but also make it about the music with maybe adding in a interview to make it more interesting.

Front cover ideas

These are some ideas for my front cover I have tried many different effects on my front cover but also added some sub title headlines on the front to see where they would best fit on the page, but also to try it make it look realistic one you would actually buy in a retail shop or news agents. My first one, i decided to make the little things like the price and bar code standout
i added some pictures behinds them to make them stand out but also gives something else to the magazine it makes it look very creative and artistic plus its in the colour scheme as well and makes to magazine fit in well with genre of music its trying to promote. The next idea is very similar to the first one but i have added some text and used another butterfly splatter under the price one i did this to see what it would look like and i think it looks very good but could use something else to as it seems to be very spacious. This idea i used a paint splatter brush and made it a transparent so you could still see what the text is underneath it and i though this looked very effective as the splatter covers some of the picture but also some of the black space on the page and i really like it purple instead of it being white all the time and the splatter effects really makes the front cover standout and made it seem very unique. My last idea of my front cover i decided to get rid of the paint splatter in the corner and used a small spray paint brush on the front cover in a few black spaces and it looks really good like the last idea and the brushe effects fit in well with the colour scheme, layout but most importantly the genre of music but all the effects used make the front cover stand out and if the front cover stands out the audience is more likley to buy it but also what is inside the magazine also counts because that is what really attracts the music fans but how the front cover looks can depend on them buying the magazine and if looks great and of a high qualty they will buy it.

Double page spreads- ideas and planning

These are some of my ideas for my music magazine double page spread, I used an unusual image and again a black background to show my colour scheme and again to link all the pages together but i used this image as I liked it but i also thought it was a really good image to best represent my genre of music in my music magazine. My first idea was more of the layout and where I would put my image. My next idea was really decide where to put my title of the article but also to show that i am going to have my starting letter of the article a different colour to again show something different and creative just like the genre, the 'text' is to show that I am having my text in columns this idea is just to show a basic layout. My next double page spread is just showing what colour i am having my chosen font and how it would look I also have made it a conscience effort to have some of the title over on to the picture to keep the two pages linked together over the page break. Then I decided on my next one i would have the text all in columns but add some effects along with it i have chosen the a paint splatter effect behind the text to add something different to the double page to make it eye catching and more creative. The next thoughts i had was the have the paint splatter in the corner of the black background and the photograph to keep the pages linked together and also make it artistic and different as it represents the genre very well. My last idea was the have a rectangle over the middle of the page with a quote from the band and text all around it which makes it different and eye catching then i also added a box on the photograph as a little fact file about the band to give background information and with the paint splatter effect around it. Its distinctive and standouts welll from both photo and background and its nice as it gives a little bit more detail about the band.
