evaluation - peer reviews and improvements

I asked a few people what they thought about my magazine and what to improve

Sarah said: That my magazine was really eye catching and all the pages linked together also you can instantly tell its an indie magazine. The only improvement i can say is that the rest of the magazine has paint splatters and your cover as a spray paint so maybe change it to a paint splatter instead. Overall I really love this magazine and nothing else to improve.

Carla said: What i like about this magazine is the fonts and how they link with her stage name and also the colour scheme works really well also I really like the photographs that you took it really ties in well with the indie music genre.

Kate said: I love the front cover, however I do believe that there could be some improvements that could allow the page to improve. The font used for the price is playful and fun, however I do not think that it fits in with the rest of the page. The image is cut out will however in places it can be seen that it had been edited. Your contents is brill and follow the front cover really well, however I believe that there should be more information, such as a competition and put the articles within the magazine in to groups such as ' Main features' and 'Upcoming Events'. Your spread is brilliant, fits its purpose and draws the readers eye.

Hamish said: That I really like the front cover however I believe that something else should be going on in the background the same for the contents page as well, I really do like the contents page i see nothing wrong with it but maybe make the picture on it a little less neat.

Jack said: The front cover is great don't change anything but the contents page background should be a texture or something more going on so its not just a block of colour the double page spread the block colour works with the effect in the background but the page split should be less neat.

Photographs for my double page spread

These are my double page photographs that picked as I thought they were the best as they really suited my magazine.
The first photograph I really liked as she is looking away in thoughtful pose just like the front cover and its mysterious which again links back to indie music genre. I really like this photograph as my double page spread photograph as its fill the page but also suits the article i am writing about her as well. She is looking away from the photograph to show the attitude of the artist but also the music as well, showing that the artist and the music are heavily linked together, also its a long shot of the artist but also showing the environment as well showing that the music can play in any environments and to show that the artist is versatile.

I decided to use another photograph on the double page spread to show another side to the artist as so far all we have seen is the moody side to the artist and the music, so I decided to put a happier photograph of the artist on to show other characteristics of the artist but also to show a different side to the music as well. But it makes the double page spread article like a profile by adding this photograph to the double page spread but it also shows the side of the arist you wouldnt normally see almost behind the scenes of the artist showing what she does on stage she isnt actually like that wild reblious girl on stage but a happy and calm girl to show the artist real self through this photograph. So overall I really like the photographs i have picked for my double page spread as the both reperesent the music genre and the aritsist in different lights and are very effective.

Final products

These are my final products for my magazine which have been improved from the original ones I first came up with as my front cover as changed dramatically as I was advised too as my splash and sub headings were not that good and really didn't link with the indie music wel with the type of font used for my splash and subheadings. My contents and double page spread are the same and i think all the pages link well together to show that they are from the same magazine. The effects also link them together with the splatters and sprays of paint which links with indie music genre as its creative which promotes the creative sound of the music as but also to show its lively as well. The titles such as the magazine name, 'contents' and the article title are all written in the same font to again link all the pages together. The photographs of the artist all the way through my pages shows that the main article is about her but to also connect all three pages together. So these are my final pages that i have been improved or altered slightly and i think that this would appeal to my target audience as the magazine is all about the music and artist. Also no effects or texts cover the artists face which is what I wanted as it shows her face fully and attracts the attention of the readers but also to show that its all about her and her story which is the same for my contents and double page spread.
The front cover font really shows if the genre of music well and really links in well with the artist stage name as its rebellious with the letters different types of fonts but also sizes as well just to show her characteristics as a performer but also the music, the music is what my whole magazine is about.

Improvements to the front cover

These are my improvements to my front cover as it was recommended for me to change my splash and sub headings to a different font and this is what I came up with i decided that the artist should have her own font so it represents the artist herself and this font i have chosen for my splash of the artist name really links well with the word rebellion as it goes against normal fonts with normal sizes of letters and it shows that the artist is a rebel and really shows where her name comes from but the font is also very eye catching and stands out well from the picture and background of the magazine. Then it was just a matter of finding a font that would go nicely with the splash font but also go with the indie/rock genre so at first i thought of just a bold but also distorted font to start with which i thought looked good easily readable and it would attract the audiences attention so this idea is fine but i felt it was missing something to make the magazine different from indie/rock magazines. So my next idea i tried a new font for my sub headings to try and find a rebellious font to fit in with the artists name but also the type of music it is. So i found this as it matches the splashes font a bit as well to link it all together but also to link the genre of music i am trying to promote in the magazine and to attract the attention of readers but mainly my target audience.
So after i picked the the font for my sub headings i thought i would mess around with by added an extra colour to around the edges such at first i tried purple to link with my colour scheme but also so it can be easily read and i thought this looked very good so then i deiced to again play with effects and then i thought that the sub headings should have no effect but the quote underneath would be different to make it more pronounced which i personally think looks a lot better than the purple as it looks a lot more pixelated, so then to follow my previous mock ups i added an spray paint/ paint splatter effect and i used the one i used on my chosen mock up and i think the spray paint really fits in well with new fonts used as it links with genre, the colour scheme and the artist clothing very well. Furthermore, what i like most about the idea is that it links with the artists stage name rebellion its very rebellious and would appeal to my teenager target audience on the shelves.

Photographs used in contents page

These are the photographs used in my contents page from the selection I had taken. These photographs i personally thought were best for my contents page as one is of the artist again creating an moody atmosphere to link with the indie music genre as the artist has a smile but also a quite moody pose to again show two side the music genre but also to show the characteristics of the main artist in the magazine. The other photograph ithought it was more of an action to show someone using intrusements to show again that the magazine is just about the music instead of gossip and scandals, this artist is again in a moody pose to show the genre of music and she is also wearing a purple shirt and fits in very well with colour scheme I have with my magazine and the image on the shirt also fits in with the rock and moody side of the music again. Both photographs fit in really well with the genre and the mian artists photograph is almost like a profile photographs to show what the main article is about her and almost a fact file of the artist. This is why i had picked these images because I thought these suited the genre very well and fitted in very with my colour scheme and overall my whole magazine and the contents page.
